  • 2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon ground cumin
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Prepare the brisket by trimming excess fat and rubbing it with smoked paprika, cumin, black pepper, and salt.
  2. Caramelize the onions in a skillet over medium heat for about 15-20 minutes; add minced garlic and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  3. Place caramelized onions at the bottom of a slow cooker or Dutch oven. Lay the seasoned brisket on top.
  4. Mix together brown sugar, soy sauce, beef broth, and apple cider vinegar; pour over the brisket.
  5. Cook on low for 8-10 hours in a slow cooker or bake at 300°F (150°C) for 3-4 hours in the oven until tender.
  6. Let the brisket rest for about 20 minutes before shredding with two forks.
